Boy dies week after being struck by SUV on I-57

An 11-year-old boy has died a week after being hit by an SUV on Interstate 57 in the Washington Heights neighborhood.

The boy died at Advocate Christ Medical Center overnight, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, which declined to identify him until an autopsy is performed later today.
His mother told the Tribune last week that he had been put in a medically induced coma to relieve pressure on his brain.
The boy was with other children at the side of the road near 103rd Street on I-57 when he was struck about 2:20 p.m. on July 22.
The boy was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he underwent emergency surgery.
